Today is not about me, Tippy Stockton, jewelry, or anything in the present. Today is about my Mom. 1,576,800 minutes ago, my Mom left this earth. So that means that I have been missing her for 1,576,800 minutes. When you pencil it out, it's been a long time. So I thought today I would give you a little history on this amazing woman I called Mom.

Born on August 15, 1928 to a German immigrant Mother (Julia Kaempf), and an Irish Immigrant Father (William Frances Dwyer). Arriving a year before the Great Depression, life was not always easy for the Dwyer's. Money was scarce, but they always seemed to make it. Until my Mom's Father William died of a sudden heart attack when my Mom was 10. My Mom was put in charge of taking care of things around the house so that my Grandmother could go out and make some kind of a living. We were always amazed when we heard that she worked for several Jewish family's in Jamaica Queens, NY. She being a German Immigrant and all.

Probably one of the most amazing things is that through it all, my Mother NEVER missed one day of school for 12 years. Wow!

In 1950, my Mother entered the convent to become a nun. She joined the order of the School Sisters of Notre Dame located in Baltimore, MD. After spending almost 7 years as a noviate, she decided that this was not the life for her. She was destined to become a wife and mother.

Getting out of the convent meant that she was now a woman on the prowl. She got herself a job working for Morrie, the owner of a Junk Yard in Brooklyn. This is where she would eventually meet her Prince Charming, my Dad Joe!

The BIG DAY was September 14, 1957. Surrounded by family and friends, she and my Dad said their I DO's in the same Parish church that she was brought up in.

On a snowy day in November, 1960 I was born. Their firstborn . . . a daughter they would call Patricia Ann (a name for both of them Patrick (Daddy), and Ann (Mommy).

Many happy days ensued and so many memories made . . .

The birth of her first grandchild (Kellan, my son) was one of the happiest days of her life. She loved this little boy. She was his caretaker for the first year of his life.

I love this picture as it is one of the last photos taken of my Mom and I. What you don't see is Mom's other hand, as she's goosing me from behind. I think I love that we were laughing and kidding around. That's how I choose to remember her.

And this is Mom's legacy . . . my brother's and I. Patricia, Joe, and Chris.

As each anniversary passes (and they really haven't gotten any easier), I am reminded of the love and laughter that we shared for the years we had with my Mom and Dad. I know they are celebrating today in heaven . . . the day she got her wings! I love you Mom.

So many wonderful blessings . . . our only child graduated from College, the Tippy Stockton Website was born, and I was featured in a beautiful cookbook. It is a true testament to the belief that through grief and loss, life really does go on.

Ahhh, November. You greet me each year with another birthday. But you bring so much more when you arrive. The spirit of giving to one another, to cherishing family and friends, to getting us in the spirit to celebrate the birth of Jesus.

I haven't always loved you though. As a child, growing up with a November birthday, meant a mediocre birthday party at my house or inside at some dumb roller rink. I had always envisioned a fun Summer birthday at a pool, lake or ocean. But I settled. My Mom always made sure to make the day special for me. When I would wake up in the morning, there was always a huge, and I mean huge ribbon corsage sitting next to my breakfast bowl. Hanging from this corsage was a handful of silver dollars, rolled up 5 and 10 dollar bills, and lots of chocolate kisses. And YES, I did wear it to school. This was special . . . I miss those corsages today, and I miss you MOM.

I will say, as I've gotten older that I really do appreciate my November birthday. First of all, Autumn is my favorite time of year now. How could you not love Fall when the leaves change colors, the air is crisp, and the idea of cooking comfort food just happens. It's the kick-off to Christmas . . . the happiest season of all! RIGHT???

Last year I celebrated my 50th birthday. Yes, there it is. In black and white. What have I learned? I still miss my Mom (and Dad) more than anything in this world, I don't miss the people who betrayed my friendship (life is too short to get caught up in all of that drama anyway), and this girl has the most loyal and loving friends on earth. I'm reminded of something that a friend told me last year about friends being with you for a Season, a Reason, or a Lifetime. I choose the friends that will stick with you through thick and thin. Friends that will keep your private conversations "private", and friends that don't stab you in the back all the while smiling and pretending your friendship means everything to them.

I hadn't really intended for this to be a soapbox moment, but there it is. I was never one for keeping my feelings to myself anyway. So I guess November brings wisdom too.

Enjoy all of these golden moments in life, and all of the topaz and gold below!

And at the end of the day, I want to sit on this bench amidst the gorgeous golden leaves in Central Park.

I came across this very poignant post by a friend this week. It's about the birth of a new tradition for this Holiday season. Everytime we turn around these days we're reminded about how awful our economy is, how people have lost their jobs and in some cases their business. I feel very blessed to be able to continue to create jewelry in my little Studio here on Cedar St. But for some reason, this Christmas Season is different . . . how? Well, for one, I am vowing to buy American made goods. The only way we can get our GREAT Country back on track again is to stop supporting things that are imported here from overseas.

Greetings from St. Paul

Normally when one says they've been "cooped up" in a hotel all weekend, you think UGH! But I was happily cooped up with so many amazing women this weekend. We bonded over craft projects, jewelry making, and photo tips. We dined on delicious food at the conference as well as a lovely evening meal around a large table. We dreamed and schemed. We did what women do ... yack and talk. But mostly we bonded. We encouraged each other, we hugged each other. We didn't tear each other down, we built each other up. Let's face it, women can be catty. Not the women I met this weekend. We all gathered for a common reason; to move forward and do and create what we love. So, it's a whole new day of aspiration, inspiration, and forging ahead. I came away with the feeling that I unloaded a whole lot of emotional baggage, and now I'm ready to take it on. Hello world . . . here I am!

Today is the 10th Anniversary of the Attacks of 9/11/01. It's hard to believe that it has been this long, as it seems like yesterday that my family's world was turned upside down. I am marking this anniversary by praying for ALL the families who lost a loved one, our soldiers who are in harms way each and every day protecting our freedoms, and the first responders who give of themselves so selflessly when it comes to assisting or protecting our citizens. God Bless the USA. I miss you Dennis . . .

So, about a month ago, I was commissioned by my sweet customer Connie to create a pillow that gave the exact longitude and latitude of her childhood home. I thought this was such a brilliant idea, and I just had to share it with all of you.

Apparently, today's technology has given us the tools to find out exactly where a certain location is anywhere in the world. So it begs the question . . . where do you LIVE???

Fall Preview

Shocking, isn't it. That I would intentionally remind you that the Season is about to change. OY! I just kinda got used to the 70 degree weather, and now the weatherman is telling me that the temps start to drop off from here. Oh well, I'll say it now as I've said it before, AUTUMN is my most favorite time of the year.

So I didn't want another day to go by without reminding you that my CELEBRATION SALE over at my new website will sadly expire on Monday, August 15. Sunroom Redeux . . .

According to the "URBAN DICTIONARY", redeux means, 1. another way to remix, 2. a way to reduce. Well, that would definitely be the definition of what happened in my Sunroom in the past week. Outside of a new chaise (pronounced "shay"), I managed to repurpose nearly everything else from the old room. One thing that I've learned from living in this old home is that paint is my friend. I would really hate to count the amount of times we have painted. But honestly, it's the cheapest and most bold way of making a huge change to any room. And friends, I'm never shy about color either. Case in point . . . the new Sunroom color is Woodlawn Blue by Benjamin Moore. I love BM paints. We painted over walls that were an Olive color before, and we only had to put one coat on. The paint is a tad bit more expensive than other brands, but definitely worth it in the long run.

The other project that I took on was painting an old wood shelf that I've had for a few years. It sits right next to the door going out to the deck and my Studio. This shelf is the catch all for things like garden gloves, plant markers, rose clippers, keys, garden books and extra plant pots. Along with some of my most prized knick knacks, I knew that I needed to clean this shelf up and give it whole new look. The before picture is below - a mauvey brown. I purchased this shelf from Joanie, the Weed Lady. When she retired, I was quick to ask if I could buy this from her. At the shop, it housed all of the ribbons. It's the perfect size and I knew it would fit perfectly next to the door. But the color was all wrong - I lived with it this way for several years, but it was time to give it a new life. So with my Annie Sloan Paint in hand, I mixed up a concoction of Old World White and a smidge of Duck Egg (aqua/green) to give it a color that would blend in with my walls. I'm going to take it one step further in the next few days by using a bit of dark wax to give it some definition. But, all in all, I'm pretty happy with the outcome!

One of my most prized possessions is an oil painting my Mom did years ago. It was always in a color palette that I didn't use, but now I have the perfect spot.

It was tough to get the lighting right because after all, it is a Sunroom.

This chair will soon be replaced with a slipper chair.

The blank space above the buffet will be the perfect home for a sign by Pink Marmalade. I'll share photos of that when it comes. Oh, and the rug. How perfect is this? I love the geometric shapes, and the color is divine.

The chaise is quite comfortable I must say!

I retired my two-tier table from my show props. I've always loved this table that I picked up from the girls at Today's Country Store in Sumner. I'm so happy that I didn't give in to all the people who wanted to buy it.

I'm thinking that I might have to do a little reading today!

It's Monday, so of course there's a glitch

So everything was going along just great, and it even looked great, but I guess everything was not up to snuff behind closed doors. HOUSTON, we have a problem!!! But not to worry . . . I have NASA and a whole team of folks trying to get it worked out.

What's on your BUCKET LIST?

I remember after seeing the movie, "The Bucket List" that I really needed to make that list. Well life tends to get in the way and time passes. I also remember thinking that my parents probably never made such a list. They missed out on so many things. I know that my Dad would have loved to have visited Ireland to see where his ancestors came from, and Normandy, France to see the resting place for all of the men and women who gave their lives for our freedom back in WWII. I know that my Mom would have loved to see Germany, where her Mother was from. And I know that in the years before she passed away, she would have loved to have been able to SEE. She became blind in the last 5 years of her life.

But today is not about the things that never happened; it's about the things that I have wanted to do and never thought for one minute would ever happen. But first, I want to reveal what's on my BUCKET LIST - not in any particular order and I'll reveal the things that I can check off!!!

TRAVEL - the Holyland, Tuscany, Provence, England, Ireland (I would really love to live here someday), Fiji and Bora Bora, every state in the USA (I've been to 41)

I know there are so many more that I could come up with, but I surely don't want to lose you. So #6 mentioned that I wanted to have my own DOT.COM. Well, as of tomorrow, I can check that off my list. For the past month or so, my sweet friend Sara has been designing and developing a website for me. What will be different here than from ETSY? Well, I'm going to say this right up front . . . I'm not a person who resorts to bribery very often. But I am tonight. I really want more BLOG FOLLOWERS. So if I give you this really YuMmY recipe, will you tell your friends about my blog??? You see, there's a really good reason for that. NEXT WEEK something really wonderful is going to happen here. I'm going to have a celebration, but I'm just going to keep it at that for right now. I'll have some prizes too! Do you like prizes??? Perhaps a discount coupon?
Leave me a note here about your favorite dessert, and I'll enter your name into a drawing to win one of my Vintage Bottle Cap Necklaces.

And now, for the recipe:

Grilled Strawberry Cobbler

6 wooden skewers (we used metal skewers)

1 (2#) container fresh strawberries, stems removed

1 c. strawberry preserves

1/4 c. water

2 tbl. fresh lemon juice

1/2 c. butter

2 c. all-purpose baking mix (I used Bisquick)

2 c. sugar

1-1/2 c. half-and-half

Soak wooden skewers in water for at least 30 minutes. Preheat grill to high heat (400-500 degrees)

Thread strawberries onto skewers. Arrange skewers on grill, and grill for 2-3 minutes per side, slice strawberries, and set aside

In a small saucepan, combine strawberry preserves, water, and lemon juice over medium heat. Bring to a simmer, cook for 2 minutes.

Preheat oven to 350.

Place butter in a 13x9 inch baking dish. Place dish in oven until butter melts.

In a medium bowl, combine baking mix, sugar, and half-and-half. Pour batter into dish with butter. Arrange strawberries on top of batter. Pour preserves mixture over top of strawberries.

Bake for 50-55 minutes or until lightly browned and set. Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream.

A Proud Moment

So when I woke up this morning and my every Sunday bulletin from The Creative Connection was in my in-box, I opened it as I do every Sunday. Looking for any "new" news about the upcoming event. And there it was . . . a photo of the cover for the upcoming book by Where Women Create - CELEBRATE! I had a multitude of feelings going on when I saw it, but most of all, I felt proud. To be included in with these lovely women; many who are uber amazing in their own right. Ree Drummond - the Pioneer Woman, whose line I stood in last year at TCC for an autograph in her new cookbook, to Celeste Shaw - owner of Chaps in Spokane. There are not enough words to describe Celeste. She is THE most gracious, loving woman I think I have ever met. Serena Thompson - The Farm Chick who gave me a gift last year when she picked me to be in her show in Spokane. Molly Wizenberg - Brandon's wife! Co-owner of my favorite pizza place on earth right here in Seattle. Delancy's on 70th if you haven't tried it. You won't be dissappointed.

It was just a year ago that I hosted a dinner party for my dear friend Tiffany. She spent the afternoon taking photos of me and my Studio. I wanted to get some promo shots and to just document this amazing gift that I was given. We gathered under a canopy that I had decked out in aqua and red to celebrate friendships; a meeting of a lovely group of women who share a common interest. It was a magical night of laughter and love. I remember going to bed that night thinking how much love I felt that night. A couple of weeks later I received a phone call from Tiffany telling me that she submitted the party photos to Jo Packham of Where Women Create and Where Women Cook fame. They wanted to feature my photos and a story about this special evening in an upcoming book, called, "Where Women Cook - CELEBRATE". And so it began, this amazing journey. The thought that kept running through my head was, "wow, Mom and Dad are so happy and proud of me". The mere thought that I could come out of the depressed state I was in after their deaths to have something as amazing as this happen, was truly extraordinary. I felt blessed beyond belief and knew that my angels were right there with me.

AND NOW IT'S A REALITY! Right there on page 72 is my story. I can't wait to share the whole thing when the book launches in Minneapolis in September. I'll be there for the launch, and I couldn't be happier.

(I'm just going to add this . . . I don't think anyone except my immediate family knew just how sad and depressed and guilt ridden I felt after my parents passed away. The depths of sadness took over every part of me. I know that most people who know me know that I put up a strong front. But inside I felt like I was dying too. I mean this when I say this, that being by myself creating beautiful jewelry in my new Studio space saved me. That and the loving and caring gestures of my husband, son, family and good friends. You all know who you are. So this moment means the world to me. I feel alive again :)

It's Tuesday, July 5 and for me this officially means that it's Summertime! When you live in the Pacific Northwest, this is the day we so hopefully wait for. The jet stream is way to the north, bringing us endless days of sunshine, blue skies, and weeds in the garden :)

Summer Memories

It was the Summer of '76. I was 15 years old; just a youngster getting the opportunity to stay with my grandparents in NYC. When you're from a small mid-Western town, this was the perfect way to spend the Summer. My days were spent at Rockaway Beach, between 108th and 116th St. Nearly every day, I would gather my beach gear and head two blocks to the boardwalk and scope out my spot. With my transistor radio tuned into WNYC, I listened to the song that would define my memories of Summer. Care to guess??? "Silly Love Songs" . . . I'm not sure why, but this song more than any brings back so many amazing memories of that Summer of '76.

When I think back, I don't think I ever realized how fortunate I was to be able to spend this time with my grandparents. We laughed, we played cards, we walked on the boardwalk. My nanny would bring me my lunch every day at the beach - I could almost set my watch to her arrival. She would stand at the railing of the boardwalk, and yell, "Patty Ann, here's your lunch." If I close my eyes, I can still see her standing there. Later in the day, I would ride with my Pop down to the "Hall". The hall was where his band, The American Irish Society would play and practice. I remember helping myself to a cold bottle of Coke from the fridge, listen to the Irish music he played, and watch as he polished the instruments. The sense of pride I had for this man was like no other. Having spent two weeks in Ireland with Pop and his band just a few short months before, I knew how this band had shaped his life. He loved his "kids", all of us!

I made friends with many of the kids that lived near Nanny and Pop. The McCarthy's, the O'Laughlin twins, Danny Massetti, and a pimply faced boy named Stevie who apparently had a ginormous crush on me. Who knew? I imagine we looked something like this. At night, we would hop on the "EL" (elevated train/subway) and head into Brooklyn to watch a movie. That's how safe it was back then. A bunch of girls riding the subway by themselves at night. We spent our time laughing, eating pizza the New York way - a large slice of cheese folded in half. Perfection!

Back in the day, I'm sure my Mom looked like this.

It was the Bicentennial year, 1976. So while Nanny and Pop took the band into the city to play in the parade, I went out to Long Island to spend a few days with my cousins. My Aunt Renee and her family went into NYC to take in the amazing spectacle the City had in store. The Tall Ships that came from around the world were a spectacular sight. Gazing across the water to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island knowing that my family passed by the grand lady and walked the halls of this building gave me chills and such pride. The Twin Towers still stood above this great City. Who would have known that 25 years later they would be gone - and that the very cousin I stood beside looking at these buildings would be gone as well.

More than anything else, what I remember about this amazing Summer was family. The Kelly and Dwyer Families . . . immigrants all of them to this incredible country we've called home now for almost a century.

Why I LOVE what I do!

Last month, I was asked to create a necklace for a friend of mine whose Son and Daughter-in-Law were expecting a new baby . . . a Baby Girl! This is so special because they have two beautiful little boys, and Grandma really wanted to celebrate this sweet birth.

So, the necklace had to be PINK, and have the #3 attached for the three little kiddos. Then I just started adding little trinkets; a heart, a Vintage French Virgin Mary charm, and a fleur de lis. I wirewrapped baby pink rondelle beads for the necklace and hung it on a Vintage pink buckle. It's really lovely, and I feel pretty honored to have been asked to be a part of this special gift.

Then, a few weeks ago, I was asked to mark a special birthday for a darling little girl who turned SIX yesterday. Hence the #26. Mom asked me to create something that she could wear that would celebrate her little girl's birthday and would forever be a rememberance of this special day. I couldn't resist sending "D" a little bauble to match her Mommy's necklace. I loved that I used multi-colored beads on the necklace - it was a nice departure from doing one color. I loved it so much that I think that I might just have to make something for myself with these colors.

This is why I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE what I do!

Happy Father's Day

Dad and Me, 1961

It seems that you never really comprehend the relationship that you have with your Daddy until it's too late. P. Joseph Kelly, my dad was with us for 76 years, almost to the day. He passed away just 4 days after his 76 birthday. That was 3 years ago. I think about him everyday and wonder what life would be like if he hadn't been stricken with Cancer in 2002. There's not a day that goes by that I don't think about how I could have made his life better in the last few days of his life. I suppose being there would have helped. I didn't make it to be with him as he took his last breath; that is something that I will always feel guilty about. But today is Father's Day . . . a day to reflect on all of the good things Dad did for me. Dad spent countless hours making sure that I knew about our Irish heritage; where our family came from. I'm so thankful for that. I'll never forget the day he walked me down the aisle at my wedding when he pressed his prized 4-leaf clover charm into my hand. Then the day that I became a Mother. How he held his 1st grandchild, my son in his arms. How he taught Kellan to play baseball. So many memories. I wish I had another hour with him to thank him to everything he did for me. I'll just have to tell him when I see him again some day.

And to the next generation of Dad's. My sweet husband John, and my amazing Son Kellan! Thank you dear John for giving me life's sweetest gift. Happy Father's Day to you and to all the Dad's out there.

Change is Good!

Change can be good, right? Well for some it makes all the difference in the world. Since I'm a glass half full kinda girl, I'm going to think very positive thoughts about this decision. My business is growing by leaps and bounds . . . that is the wholesale side of my business. I wanted my business to have a nice flow, so I hired a good friend of mine to revamp my business card, as well as design a new website for me. The website will have shopping capabilities for both retail and wholesale customers. In addition, my blog (yes, this page) will be embedded right there so while you're shopping, you can skip over to my blog to see what I'm up to. Everything will be right at your fingertips. I will continue to have my ETSY Shop . . . for awhile anyway! The idea is to make this easier for you, my customer and friends to find me . . . all of me! :)

Next weekend, June 25, John and I will load the trailer and head north to Camano Island for a visit with our friends, Deb and Bob at their amazing show, Retreat Vintage Market. It'll be a fun filled day of shopping and visiting with some of my favorite vendors and is sure to be an amazing display of eye candy and wares. In addition to the fabulous new line of "CANDY" Necklaces, I'll have an abundance of fun jewels for SUMMER. A few throw pillows, some new lavender sachets, a bevy of garden delights, and I think it promises to be a great show. I can't wait. Please pray for good weather.

Last week, I had the distinct pleasure of taking a little trip to Eastern Washington. No, not to see Kellan - he's done with Eastern Washington, thank God. I went on a little selling trip with my new Rep., Cindy. First I have to say that perhaps I'm a little biased, but we live in any amazing state. The landscape was awe inspiring. Just gorgeous. I digress. We ended our day in Moses Lake. I have to say, I was pretty tired, but the minute we walked into Silver Sage, I knew that this was a shop where I really wanted my jewelry to be sold. The shopkeeper, Lenae is adorable, but the real adorableness belongs to none other than Aspyn, her almost 1 year old daughter. What a darling little girl. I took a few pictures of Lenae's shop - gorgeous linens, lamps, pillows, candles . . . the list goes on. It was definitely my kind of shop. Lenae picked out a wonderful selection of Tippy Stockton Jewelry that will arrive just in time for her "Girls and Swirls" event on Friday evening, June 3. If you're in the area, or passing through on your way to Farm Chicks, I hope that you'll stop in and say hello. I'm giving you a little sneak peek too of some of the pieces that will be for sale.

Why do we celebrate Memorial Day? For many, it's the kick-off to the Summer season. For other's, it's just an extra day off work. But for the many women and men who serve our great country, it's not a day off - the enemy still exists.

And for SO MANY, this is a day of sadness when they are reminded of a family member who died for OUR FREEDOM. That's right . . . we get to relax in the comfort of our own homes, frolic at the beach, have a barbeque at a park because of the selflessness of these honorable men and women.

So when you go to sleep tonight, be thankful for all God has blessed you with and say a prayer for the families who celebrate this holiday in sadness. And don't forget to thank a Soldier! They have a thankless job, and they deserve our praise. God Bless America!

I've had the distinct honor to get to know a wonderful man (and his lovely wife) who is an icon in the design world . . . Matthew Mead. I met he and Jenny at the Mary Engelbreit Workshop last April in St. Louis. I had been following him for awhile though; not a full-fledged stalker follower, but I never missed a magazine that had is name on it. Happy Mother's Day

Mother's Day is nearly here. What plans do you have??? I'll be attending a graduation. My son Kellan is going to be a college graduate and I couldn't be more proud. It's going to be weird though - he's been in school now for over 17 years, and now he gets to go out into the big world. I know that my own Mom would be so very proud too of her oldest grandchild. They had a bond like no other.

I feel blessed beyond belief, humbled, and proud that out of a tragedy I could pick myself up, brush myself off, and start all over again. The other exciting news is that I am about to hit a ginormous milestone (well for me it is) over at my ETSY shop. 500 SALES. FIVE ZERO ZERO . . . who knew! It just seems like yesterday that I was proudly announcing my 400th sale.

Is it really almost April???

I guess you could say that SPRING officially kicks of my Show Season. So here's a sneak peek at some of the fun things that I have planned for April.

On Saturday, April 2, I will be in Snohomish helping Timi and Annie celebrate the

Grand Opening of Ruffles and Rust Square,

a new antique, vintage fun place to shop. I'll have lots of new items for

Spring, Summer, Wedding Season . . .

I have to say that R & R Square is a completely unique shopping experience. Timi and Annie handpicked the vendors who have set up their spaces. Absolutely wonderful eye candy. I love this vendor - the perfect display of garden delights!

Then on April 8-10, I take a break from business to go over to

Washington State University

to visit my son for my final Mom's Weekend. Seems like yesterday that he became a student there, and now he's about to graduate. The highlight of the weekend will be a concert by none other than

Colbie Caillat and Lee

(last years American Idol winner - and yes, I know his last name, just can't spell it and didn't want to completely mess it up by trying ;). This is huge for Kellan to go to this concert, so he is totally racking up the Mom points. I can't wait to spend these few days with Kellan, take some photos of he and I in his cap and gown in front of Martin Stadium and the Cougar. My friend Pam and I will indulge in a bit of retail therapy while we are there, and I'll get to stop in and see one of my customers at Prune Orchard.

And then on April 16, I'll be heading up north to Anacortes for the

Island Chicks Show.

I'll get to see so many of my friends as we put on a show Island style.

Prayers for Abbey

This is a difficult post to write, but I hope in some way that it will touch you like it has touched me. Today, I'm asking you to spend a few minutes and say a prayer for Abbey.

Here is Abbey's story: A week or so before Valentine's Day, I was contacted by a woman named Lori. She was interested in purchasing the necklace featured above, The Devotion Necklace. Lori wanted to have the necklace as a rememberance of her beloved son, Caleb. Caleb passed away just two weeks after he was born. Since I had sold this necklace a couple of times over, I merely pulled another heart out of my pile, made the necklace and sent it off. When Lori received the necklace she was awed by the fact that the ephemera had a #4 and a #2 imprinted on the paper under the resin. The #2 symbolized two children, the #4 for her daughter Abbey's birthdate. Needless to say, I was elated that she loved the necklace and this little bauble had given her such joy when she has lived with such despair since her tiny son passed away.

Fast forward to this morning. I received a note from Lori letting me know that she wanted to purchase another necklace - this time for Abbey her 9 year old daughter. Like most little girls, Abbey loves pink, so the necklace will be the same, but with pink beads. And then came the worst possible news. I don't know Lori, only as a customer and someone who poured her heart out to me about her baby boy. The news today from Lori made me really ponder what faith means. You see, Lori's only child, sweet Abbey, the child that was given to this family after another was taken away was diagnosed with Leukemia. How is it possible that God could do this to this family. My faith tells me that God is All, see's all and will take care of everything. But will He? I have to believe that God will heal Abbey and make her stronger, and that He will give her parents the courage and strength to take care of Abbey and themselves.

I am asking, really begging for you to spend a few moments and wrap your faith around these people and pray for Abbey's recovery. As a Catholic, I have decided to make my Lenten offerings in prayers for Abbey. I hope that you can find the time to say some prayers for this family.

I'm humbled that my jewelry affected someone like Lori in this way. I hope that someday soon I will have great news to share that Abbey is healed and running and playing as 9 year old should.

They need OUR Help!

As you are all aware, Japan was rocked by the largest earthquake in 120 years last Friday. While I haven't been in touch with many of my Fuji Xerox friends in many years, I can tell you that even though they are strong people, they need our help. The Japanese people are amazing - always smiling, always a twinkle in their eyes. They are very humble and would probably cringe at the thought that they need help, but they do.

What can I do? Well, just as I did when Haiti was struck by an earthquake last year, I will be donating 25% of my proceeds until the end of the month to The RED CROSS. I've selected the Red Cross because they were so incredibly amazing to my family after 9/11; offering to donate airfares for all of us to attend my cousin Dennis' funeral. While we didn't take them up on it, it was wonderful to know that they were willing to help people less fortunate than us.

Last night, I attended the pre-dinner for the

Dream Girls Weekend.

What a hoot! I had been out all day and really didn't have time to prepare a "get-up" for the Hillbilly theme that was going on. It was okay though, as the girls who did dress up, more than made up for me being in my jeans and sweater.

It really was a special evening; a gathering of women who all have a common interest. Art, fun, and a good time. I was introduced to people who I have only known through blogging or Facebook. So I was so excited when I finally got to meet Jeanne Oliver in person. I had heard from many of my friends what an awesome photographer, artist and just a geniunely nice person she is. And guess what, she really is nice. One of her most recent art pieces really made me ponder things about my life in recent months. It was about forgiveness. I remember when my Mom was alive, she would say to me that it was a lot easier to forgive than to carry that burden around on your shoulders. While it sometimes difficult to put those feelings aside, I have decided to let it go.

I choose forgiveness!

I remember last year as I was getting my feet wet with Tippy Stockton, I came across some pictures from a Girl's Weekend that was held by my friend

Tiffany, The Fancy Farmgirl.

It was called Dream Girls Weekend.

A group of like-minded, artsy, fun and giggly girls get together and spend the weekend crafting fun things, all the while laughing their way through the day. I also remember thinking that I would love to go for so many reasons. To be around this group of women would be the bees knees. Secondly, to be taught how to solder by none other than Terri Brush, well that would be something. So when sweet Tiffany invited me to attend this year, I was thrilled beyond words. Unfortunately, I will only be attending the Sunday session - soldering a friendship bracelet. YAY! I can't wait. Check back next week when I post pictures and details of this lovely weekend.

Winter is Waning

Well, as I sit here in my cozy livingroom this morning on this gloriously sunny and beautiful day, I really have to ask . . . is Winter waning? Will Spring really be here soon? I would have to say NO to both those questions. Yesterday we had snow that blanketed my beautiful snowdrops and tet'e a tet'e daffodils. Today, albeit gorgeously sunny, it's really cold . . . 24 degrees! Yikes! I've been flipping through some wonderful gardening magazines and making plans for what theme my garden will have this year. Probably more of the same, but with lots of new color.

I just purchased a new slipcover for my Sunroom sofa. I can't wait to get it. I've had the same sofa for the past 20 years - it's been bleached out by the sun, but I love its shape. So a new spruce up is in order. I think I will toss some new pillows onto it, change up the color a bit. A fresh start for Spring. I like that!

And as Winter wanes, new colors are popping up in my shop @ http://www.tippystockton.com. I love color . . . can't wait to get back to designing.

Are any of you thinking this is a rambling, off the wall post? I do! But, I have so much to say and I thought that I would just put it all in one post. SPRING Arrived this Weekend!

It was clear and cold outside, but clearly SPRING arrived at the Ruffles and Rust Show in Monroe this past weekend. What an incredible time I had visiting with friends, making new friends and customers, and just enjoying all of the eye candy. Sadly, I don't have many photos of other booths :( It was so busy all weekend that I barely had a minute to make the rounds. But, here's a few pictures of my booth . . . my happy place!

My friend, Kristi of Sassy Shades fashioned some amazing lampshades to sit atop my milk glass lamps. They are gorgeous!!!

Pearl was all decked out this weekend, as always. Festooned in her aqua best, she even sported some Springtime forsythia around her waist . . . clever girl!

I was able to have a speck of time to create a new line of French themed pillows. From Paris to Bonjour and a little je'taime . . . oui, oui!

My Heart Beats for You!!!

It goes without saying . . . I LOVE Valentine's Day! This is true for so many reasons. I met my dear sweet husband one day after Sweetheart Day back in 1980. I was lamenting that I just wasn't clicking with any of the "stuck up" California boys. I had just moved (reluctantly) from Illinois - my Dad had been transferred for a new job, and I was too young to stay back by myself. And 31 years later, I am married to and in love with my "not very stuck up" California boy.

But the other reason I LOVE Valentine's Day is HEARTS! As you can see above, there is no shortage of hearts in my jewelry creating these days. Winter Whites

With a proverbial sigh, I can honestly tell you that I've actually had time to sit down (without a crochet hook in hand), put my feet up, and read some magazines. I actually reduced the fire risk in our home by 50%. After scouring my fav's. and pulling out photos, articles and yummy recipes, they hit the recycle bin yesterday. Country Living Magazine just happened to be in my mailbox yesterday and it was quite interesting. After the liveliness of Christmas with all the red and green, I'm ready to tone it down a bit. I love white . . . reminds me of snow, I guess. It's calming and clean. So, I would recommend that if you want a good dose of white, pick up a copy of Country Living at your newsstand. It's full cover to cover with white.

My Haven

holy cow, I think I need to clean my windows! YIKES!

I told you a few days ago that I would start sharing photos of my home and "my style". Well, the Christmas decorations have been taken down in most of the rooms with the exception of the Sunroom. I took a few shots in the kitchen and livingroom, but as the days go by, I'll add more. One of the things that I haven't shared with you yet is that just a few short weeks ago, John and I completely painted out the kitchen . . . including the cupboards. Yes, the cupboards were green, now they are a soft putty color. I really love the new color scheme we chose. A soft bluish/aqua. Set against our granite that has black, tan, ivory, and that rich putty color, I think it really looks great. I can't help myself by having a bit of red thrown in. RED is my color, well that and Tippy Blue. We have a very old home - this old gal was built back in 1930. In 2002 we had a flood that wiped out most of the 1st floor and the cellar. We decided at that point that we would take this home back to its time - we had a black and white tile floor laid in our kitchen. In 2007, we did a small remodel in the kitchen. New granite, all new appliances, and new hardware on the cupboards. After the recent paint project, we entered into the Holiday Season. I still need to make new curtains for the bay and two other windows. I'll show those off when they're done!

You'll notice one thing . . . I'm a wordy! I love anything that says something. Words are everywhere; reminders of things to be thankful for.

Honeysuckle - the color for 2011

When you think of Honeysuckle, what color comes to mind? For me, it's a pale, pale yellow. But according to Pantone, the color for 2011 is PINK! So what do you think of these beauties? Colour Annee - $40

I love pink, but even though I'm a girly-girl, this is not a color I gravitate to. Don't get me wrong, I love it! And seeing this gorgeous color up close and personal, I might just have to hurry out to find something fabulous in this amazing color. I do know that I have some lovely jewelry coming soon in this color, or something close. But until then, you'll just have to drool over the color and imagine yourself dressed in something HONEYSUCKLE!

FYI . . . every year as I prepare for the next season, I always consult Pantone for their picks for fashion as well as interior colors. I use it as a guide, but I usually trust my own instincts when it comes to picking out beads and stones. For instance, last years color was none other than TURQUOISE. Who knew . . . Tippy Blue.

It's the dawn of a new day and a NEW YEAR . . . 2011. It just seems like yesterday when I was singing "American Pie" in my little bedroom in Central Illinois. New Years, a time to reflect and to dream about the year to come. 2010 was an amazing year for me personally, after a couple of really horrible years. I guess you could say that I deserved it. But as I reflect back on 2010, I also realize how much I could do things just a little better. So with that said, I am going to make a few changes to my blog. Already you can see that the look has changed. A sweet friend gave me some help in designing my own blog banner, so I'll be changing that up . . . often!

I love Interior Design. I've done my share of design work, including some Holiday design work just this past Christmas. I love it! So one of the changes that I would like to make this year is to introduce you to "my STYLE". It's a little rustic and very cottagey with some color thrown in for good measure. In the coming weeks, I will show you a little peak at my own home. But for now, as I sit on this lazy New Year's Day (John REALLY wants to take the Christmas tree down, but it's nearly 3:30pm and I'm still in my jammies and slippers), I've really enjoyed perusing the net to see what's happening out there in the design world.

Even though many of us think that once the Holidays are over Spring beckons, well let me tell you, we just flipped the season into Winter. Winter is downtime - the perfect time to get things done on your honey-do list like painting, cleaning out closets, and organizing. I love Winter - things are still and serene making way for the beginning of Spring. So sit back and enjoy a few of my favorite Winter scenes and decor ideas.

One of the most amazing aspects of my little cottage is the Sunroom that was built at the back of the house back in the 1980's. It's all windows and is especially beautiful in Winter where the sun comes streaming through the windows making the room warm and toasty.

A beautiful and peaceful bedroom. Lots of layers on that bed. Ahhhhhh!

Don't forget your porch . . . nothing says Winter but a sled and some skates!

The gorgeous wreath you bought at Costco in November??? Keep it up! Add a few more cones, perhaps spray it with a can of SNOW. Then in mid-January, add a big red bow and some hearts for Valentines Day.

I hope you've had a relaxing New Year! I know I have, but I can't wait for 2011 to get going. I won't forget to give you occasional updates on the jewelry front. There are so many exciting things happening this year for Tippy Stockton. I can't wait to share it with you.

Oh what a year it was . . .

It's always fun at the end of the year to go through pictures that have documented your year. There were so many photos this year, it was hard to choose. But I certainly hit on the highlights. From the many shows that I was a part of . . . Petite Retreat, The Farm Chicks Show, Haley's Cottage Flea Market, Ruffles and Rust, Wine - Women - Business . . . so much fun to be a part of these amazing shows. 2011 promises to be as busy as 2010. At this point, I've only committed to the Ruffles and Rust Show, February 19-20. Kellan will be graduating, so it looks like I might just be a customer at The Farm Chicks Show this year and make a return visit in 2012.

And then it was the Conferences I attended. In April, The Mary Engelbreit Workshop where my name tag won an award, to Where Women Create - Creative Connection in Minneapolis in September. I'll make a return visit to Minneapolis next September for the 2nd Creative Connection. Honestly, so much bonding with such amazing women . . . I wouldn't miss it.

In November, the feature in Matthew Mead Holiday Magazine. What a way to start the Holiday season. Such a beautiful magazine, and I was so proud to be a part of Matthew's inaugural magazine.

In 2011, I am so excited to be a part of a beautiful book called "Where Women Cook - Celebrations". It will be part cookbook and part vignette stories about celebrations. My feature is a Girlfriend's Backyard Garden Party. You'll have to wait for details and I haven't heard exactly when it will be published . . . Spring or Fall!

And I think the most exciting part of 2011 is that Tippy Stockton Jewelry is going to be hitting the road with a Rep. Group in Seattle. 5 Western States, and 15 reps. So exciting, daunting, and a little scary all at the same time. But I couldn't be happier! I never knew I could be so excited and in love with what I'm doing. I'm truly blessed!

It's been a wild and crazy Holiday Season here at Tippy Stockton. I did take some time this week to relax with my Family. We celebrated with a lovely dinner with friends on Christmas Eve, and then had a wonderful Christmas Day opening gifts, morning Mass, Brunch, and wrapped it up by heading to the movies. Such a fun day!

Well, yesterday was my Birthday and I had promised that I would pick a lucky winner. Well, the day got away from me. I worked in my Studio in the morning - the Christmas orders are starting to roll in. I finished two crocheted scarves; one went to New Jersey, the other going to Georgia. I had a beautiful pair of Christmas red earrings that went to a lovely lady here in the Seattle area. I love Christmas . . . and I love to see where Tippy Stockton is going to show up all over the world. My Birthday was perfect, quiet like I like it! My husband surprised me with a few lovely gifts, one of them being a Nook. I need your help friends - I have fought buying one of these because I love the feel and smell of a book. Hmmmm, still thinking on that one. He also indulged me with my favorite perfume, and a dozen roses. Last night we met up with 2 couples at Maggiano's. Way too much food, but oh so enjoyable with the people that I love. And it's not over . . . I hate surprises, but apparently there is something happening on Saturday night. Don't know a thing about it! I guess I need to just roll with it. But the topper to my evening was when my sweet son, Kellan arrived home from college in time to wish me a Happy Birthday. Can't wait to spend the day with him today.

Thank you to everyone who wrote in. Your stories put a smile on my face and gave me pause to remember some of my favorite Christmas memories. So, I'll share one with you:

I have many, but the one that comes to mind so vividly was the year my baby brother Chris was in the Navy. He had been away for some time, and had no immediate plans to be home. But, he was able to get 5 days leave over Christmas and we surprised my Mom and Dad by flying him in for the Holidays. I can still see the looks on their faces when he came strolling in dressed in his "Navy dress whites". The tears of joy that spilled from both of their eyes is definitely something I will never forget. What I loved was, it wasn't about the presents at all, it was about Family!!!

So from my Family to yours . . . a blessed Thanksgiving to all of you. Cherish the time you have with your parents, family, children and friends. Life is short . . .

What's in Store for the next 50

I'm sitting here on the eve of the BIG 50 . . . okay, so there I admitted it. My good friend whom I've known for 42 years called tonight. She told me that the night before her 50th she got very emotional. Am I emotional? No, not really. Kind of melancholy. Wondering what the next 50 years will be bring besides envelopes from the AARP. WHAT??? Isn't that for Retired People?

For me, my 40's were a time of a lot of joy, but also sadness. I accomplished a lot in my 40's; I began new journey's and said goodbye to a part of my life that meant the world to me. Okay, so now I'm emotional.

I will say that there were some incredible highlights in the past 10 years. My sweet husband John and I celebrated 25 years of marriage. It was amazing the comments we received from random people the night we celebrated our anniversary at a Seattle restaurant. To us it seemed like such a short time, but these folks reminded us that we in fact had hit a milestone. I can't wait to see what the next 25 will have in store for us. I just know that we are such good friends and have such a great time together. Kellan graduated from High School . . . then went to college. In a few short months he will graduate from college and be ready to start his life. It doesn't seem possible that the little baby who toddled around is now a grown man. The sweetest part of life.

In 2008, my sweet Dad succumbed to cancer. He fought a good fight - he willed himself to live for 5+ years after the doctors told him 3-6 months. I miss our phone calls. He always would call for my Mom because she was legally blind. It was always "my daughter" in his best Irish accent. I miss that. What I wouldn't do to just hear him say that again! That's when cell phones in heaven would be so nice!!! And then if things couldn't get any worse, my Mom passed away just months after Dad. Yes, a double whammy! Again, hello God - could you please put my Mom on the phone. There are so many things that I want to share with her. Just to be able to bounce things off her would be great. Or a cooking tip or a reminder on a recipe. Sadness that nearly took me down, until one day I started to create. Tippy Stockton saved me!

As I look at the photograph taken on my very first birthday, I look at a little girl who grew up happy. Who knew . . . So, happy me! 50 is fabulous, right? My dermatologist told me that I didn't look 50, Dr. Kathy says my ticker is in great shape. I have made a deal with myself though - I will lose some weight. I want to live up to the 50 is fabulous and maybe even trick people into thinking that I'm really in my 40's.

So here's to 50! Take it or leave it . . . I'm there.

Well, it's the morning after . . . yes, IT has arrived!!! HOLIDAY by Matthew Mead was on my doorstep yesterday morning. I can't quite explain to you how excited I was to open this "Bookazine" and see what Matthew and his crew have been furiously working on for months. It was their baby, and wow what a beautiful baby it is. GORGEOUS!!! This is NOT a magazine - the paper alone tells you the love that was involved in putting this together. It's thick and has a beautiful hand, like a lovely piece of fabric. The photography is amazing! The stories . . . well, lets just say, they are perfect in every way.

The other reason I was so excited to receive my copy was because I was chosen to be featured in this inaugural magazine. Tippy Stockton's Noel Bracelet is proudly featured. I have had many pinch me moments this past year, and I have to say, this one is pretty exciting.

Not only have I been featured, but I have been blessed with having had the opportunity to meet Matthew and his wife Jenny. Back to Work

We just returned from a much needed week of downtime. Our week in Myrtle Beach was pretty uneventful, albeit a visit to the Walk-in Clinic for me. It seems that I don't really like air conditioning that much. I had a whopper of a sinus infection, so with a Z-pack and Mucinex in hand, I was as good as new. Have I mentioned I LOVE the EAST Coast??? I was born in New York, and I guess once you have had a taste of the Atlantic beaches, your hooked forever. We were able to take in a little of bit of southern history when we took a ride to Georgetown. The homes in this area are all marked with their birth dates, circa 1830, etc. It was so fun to see that these beautiful homes are still standing and are definitely not showing their age. The rain that day kept us from really getting out to take advantage of more of the historical sites, but we were content to just drive and take in the beauty of South Carolina.

But, now it's back to work for me. This week is a pretty exciting one. Matthew Mead's HOLIDAY magazine will hit mailboxes all across the world, and I was lucky enough to be featured in this new magazine. I hope that you ordered your copy.

It's Sunday today, and here's a little sneak peek preview of some of the things that are now in my shop for the Holiday Season. In the next week, look for many new items that will be showing up. I will be a creative elf getting so many things ready for the approach of the most amazing time of the year!
So, the suitcases have been unloaded and stowed away for another day, 5 loads of laundry are waiting for washing, and my mind is spinning with all of the possibilities that Christmas brings. Oh, and the most exciting thing, my TV now has "Sounds of the Season" running Christmas songs 24-7. I am a happy girl . . .

Who goes on Vacation right before the kick-off to Holiday Season

My in-laws, who enjoyed many years of their timeshare unit in California are no longer able to travel, so John and I were the recipients of this amazing gift. Last Summer we traveled to Ft. Lauderdale, and this year we decided on Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. I grew up on the East Coast, in New York. I have always loved the beaches along the Atlantic. White sugary sands, gentle waves, it doesn't get any better. We arrived in Myrtle Beach just in time to see a beautiful sunset last Saturday. But it's the sunrise that is so amazing to me. Because we now live on the West Coast, the Sunsets are what we look forward to. The sunrise over the Atlantic is incredible - it's the beginning of the day for our United States. As you gaze across the water, it's hard to imagine that across that big pond is another world . . . Europe. It just makes me have such an appreciation for our Universe.

It seemed a little crazy to me to go away on the eve of the Holiday Season, but I can honestly tell you that I have done nothing but relax, read, hang out at the beach (and yes I did get sunburnt), and dine at some of the best Seafood restaurants on the Atlantic Ocean. I know that I will be in a much better mood when I get back home - ready for the season of hustle and bustle.

Next week, my much awaited feature in Matthew Mead's HOLIDAY magazine will be hitting homes all across the country. I hope that means that Tippy Stockton is going to be busy filling orders for good little girls near and far. With Christmas music already uploaded onto my IPOD, I wish you Happy Holidays from Myrtle Beach!

This time next week, I will have had a day to set up my space at the most fabulous show of the season . . . Ruffles n' Rust - a Vintage Market to Inspire. I have been so busy getting things together for this show. Besides jewelry, I have been working on little men!!! Well, little snowmen. They are so cute! It's feeling a little like Christmas at the Tippy Stockton Studio. Glitter, silk, chandelier glass, lavender, and top hats!!!

A bunch of Girly Girls + Glue Stix, Jewels, & Excited Energy = The Creative Connection

There are times in life where you have to sit back and wonder if you're living in a dream, or pinch me, this is for real. Well I have had plenty of those moments in the past two days here in Minneapolis. The Creative Connection is in a word . . . amazing! I know that sounds so trite, but words can't describe this collective gathering of creative women.

One of those amazing women is pictured above with Timi and me . . . that's Jo Packham. Yes, can I say that I love this woman! She is humble, endearing, generous, thoughtful, and I can't wait to get to know her even more. She has surrounded herself with the same kind of women as she - kind beyond words. I just don't know what else to say.

Today, I crafted the most darling little crown. Check back for pictures next week. Tonight was the Gala Event featuring Keynote Speakers Mary Jane Butters of MaryJanes Farm, and one of my most favorite idols, Amy Butler. It was such a incredible evening and we all took away a huge swag bag full of goodies galore!

On Friday, I will be a student in Kaari Meng's Heart Cushion Class. Kaari is yet another favorite. Then in the afternoon, I have a Business Seminar about taking my business to the next level.

Saturday, one more class, a darling little Christmas birdy and the farewell Cupcake Party. Yes, I'm tired, but I'm completely exhilarated. Yes, I am blessed and oh so HaPpY!

Minneapolis or Bust!!!

I'm on top of the world and over the moon. I'm heading to Minneapolis to spend a few days with friends creating and connecting. I can't wait. I have not one, but two fabulous roommates. Many stories to be told, I'm sure. Can't wait to share when I return. Plus, I will be meeting up with a grade school/high school friend that I haven't seen in over 30 years. We double-dated to Senior Prom. What a week ahead. Check back next week . . .

Another crazy, busy week here at Tippy Stockton. Why do I do this to myself??? I had an absolutely, fantastic and amazing Saturday over at Haley's Cottage in Kirkland.
